League Background:

Derby City Council formed the Derby City Council Community League under the name ' Community Football League' as a service to children in deprived inner city areas. A tournament style approach was adopted. Where there is no Formal home or away team, all matches are played at one venue.
With the establishment of Mini Soccer as the only approved version of the sport for children up to 10 years of age in the late 90’s, the Leagues focus changed to the provision of mini soccer alone. At this point the League ceased to provide 11 V 11 competition to 11 year olds and upwards. 11 V 11 footballs to Under 11’s and above is provided by Derby City Football League.
The control of the league was handed over to member clubs in 2005. At this point the League was renamed the Derby Mini Soccer League. Since this time it has become finically viable. Under the leagues constitution, the surplus of income is invested in the provision of football to the young.
Currently all under 9’s and under 10’s matches are played at Derby Racecourse which the only venue is made available to us by Derby City Council. Under 7’s and Under 8’s matches are Played at Derby College Mackworth on the All Weather Pitch.
The management committee is currently comprised of a number of former secretaries, referees and Council officials.
The League has announced plans to develop a 9 v 9 competition at Under 11's. At its AGM in June 2009, the membership sanctioned the necessary changes to League Rules in order to pave the way for this initiative. The format of the competition is currently under discussion and input from member Clubs is welcome. The League feels that the provision of 9 v 9 at U11 is a vital step in achieving a smooth transition to full 11 a-side youth football. Hopefully, this initiative will see fewer players leave the game at this young age. In 2009 Derby Mini Soccer League was awarded Charter Standard League Status.

League Strategy:

• The League is committed to the continued development of the sport and intends to be an `early adopter’ and/or pilot of new initiatives suggested by the governing body.
• The League is committed to implementing a structure and rigor that results in more children enjoying the sport.
• The League’s aim is to teach children to accept winning and losing in the same light whilst enjoying a healthy sporting pastime.
